By adhering to these dos and don’ts, parents can build healthier relationships and foster an environment of love, respect, and unity, ultimately shielding children from the adverse effects of parental alienation.
Don’ts
1. Avoid Negative Talk
- Do Not Badmouth the Other Parent: Refrain from disparaging remarks about the other parent in front of the child, as this fosters hostility and confusion.
- Don’t Engage in Gossip: Avoid discussing private disputes or negative feelings about the other parent openly or in the child’s presence.
4. Do Not Restrict Contact
- Limit Interactions Unjustly: Never restrict your child’s contact with the other parent without valid reasons; this is counterproductive and harmful.
- Do Not Sabotage Plans: Avoid making plans that interfere with the child’s opportunities to spend time with the other parent.
7. Don’t Manipulate Emotions
- Avoid Guilt-Inducing Statements: Do not make the child feel guilty for wanting to spend time with the other parent, or imply that loving one parent is a betrayal of the other.
- Don’t Create False Narratives: Consistently avoid fabricating stories or misleading the child about the other
